about

"I Was Once A House Head" (IWOAHH) is a project I initially intended to drop during the summer of 2015. However, after obsessing over it for the last few months, I’m finally happy to share this overdue release with you.

This project is important to me because it represents both a re-emergence of my music, and a return to the roots of my sound. Under my previous alias, I felt that I had lost track of my identity as an artist and sought out recognition or approval from other artists by trying to tailor my music to what was current or “in” at the time. I wasn’t making music that really reflected my passions, my influences, or my character - and this eventually drained me of my originality and creative energy.

IWOAHH is a “musical moonwalk” back to the core influences that sparked my interest in music and shaped it. From Kwaito, South African Deep House, and Mid Tempo, to Jazz, Ghanaian High Life and UK Garage, I have arrived at who I am today: a house head who loves nothing more than a chord, a bassline and his percussion – snares in particular.

This EP serves as my first proper "hello" to the world and as a nod to the past. Most importantly, it is also a preview of what’s to come from the mind of blaqkongo. This is only the beginning.
